How to compare quantity surveying job offers

Compare the work, support and total package before choosing your next QS role.

By QSJobs · Reviewed 26 September 2026

Start with the work you will own

Ask which projects you will join, their stage and value, which contracts are used, and who signs off your commercial decisions. A broad title can cover very different levels of responsibility. Clarify whether the role covers pre-contract cost planning, procurement, post-contract administration, final accounts or a mixture.

Write the whole package side by side

Record the stated base salary, any guaranteed allowances, pension contribution, holiday, professional fees and study support. Keep discretionary bonuses separate from guaranteed pay. Check the actual office, site and travel expectations and whether travel expenses are covered. A hybrid label alone does not tell you how often you will commute.

Compare like with like

A day rate is not an annual salary. Contract length, unpaid gaps, leave and the terms of engagement affect the comparison. Ask the recruiter to explain the advertised pay basis and obtain specialist advice where you need it. On QSJobs, annual pay and daily rates have separate filters.

Confirm the details before accepting

Use the original advert, ask about unclear points and get the agreed terms in writing. On a collected listing, Apply takes you to the original source; that source controls its application process. If an advert has expired, use the similar live jobs on its page.
