How to read these figures

One current listing contributes one advertised range. Confirmed duplicates, held adverts, specimen jobs, closed jobs and listings whose freshness window has expired are excluded. Both salary bounds must be stated; an exact salary counts as two equal bounds. “Up to”, “from”, negotiable and undisclosed pay are excluded from this comparison.

The midpoint is halfway between an advert’s two bounds. Its median is the middle midpoint across the group. The lower and upper medians describe the advertised range; they are not measures of uncertainty. Benefits and bonuses are excluded. Annual salaries, day rates and hourly rates are kept separate.

This is a sample of adverts on QSJobs, not a representative survey of the profession or evidence of what candidates were actually paid. Recruiter coverage, missing pay and undetected duplicates can skew the sample. A five-advert group remains small. Use the individual advert and official earnings figures alongside it.
